In the energy sector, Ethiopia aims to improve generation for the domestic and export markets, from a mix of low-cost and clean renewable sources(e.g. hydro and wind).Increased 7access to energy is a prerequisite forstructural transformation as envisioned inthe national industrialization strategytoimprove business opportunities. During 2014-2018, theshare of the population with access to electricity increased from 27.2% to 45%.With a target of increasing electricity generation capacity by 17,346 MW during theGTP-II,Ethiopia seeks to become a power supply hub for the East Africaregion and is looking to expand its power export capability through increased power system integration in the region, in line with the East Africa Power Pool, IGAD and HoA plans.
