Transmission

Transmission is a critical, albeit often overlooked aspect of the African energy sector that requires significant improvement continent-wide. Transmission losses due to inadequate infrastructure are a major cause of the electricity access deficit in Sub-Saharan Africa next to a lack of installed generation capacity.

This section seeks to illuminate some of the key issues impacting the development and improvement of transmission infrastructure in Africa, as well as provide information on regional and national initiatives that are developing more efficient and cost-effective systems and frameworks for transmitting and trading electricity within countries and across borders.
