Accelerated Actions and Transformative Pathways on Clean Cooking for the Delivery of Sustainable Development Goal 7

TagsEnergy Access, Renewable Energy

With over 4 million people dying every year from noncommunicable diseases caused by household air pollution and 2.8 billion still lacking access to clean cooking solutions, accelerating progress towards universal access to clean cooking fuels and technologies must be a top political, economic, and environmental priority. The COVID-19 outbreak has stressed the need for targeted actions and investments to build back better, increase resilience and tackle one the biggest challenges of our time.

The transition to an inclusive and sustainable energy future called by SDG7, including universal access to clean cooking solutions will lead to positive climate, socio-economic, gender-balanced and health outcomes, serving the achievement of the Paris Agreement and various interlinked SDGs, including SDG3 on health, SDG5 on gender, SDG10 on inequalities, SDG13 on climate.

The possible role of the European Union in accelerating access to clean cooking will be discussed, while international bodies will reflect on the overarching, long-term interventions needed.
